Careers at Five Acres
Across our wide and varied curriculum, we embed careers learning at all stages, with employers and agencies coming in to support our teaching teams, highlighting to students the relevance of their school-based learning.
We recognise the importance of excellent impartial careers information and advice, and work with a wide variety of external agencies, post 16 education providers and higher educational providers to share advice and guidance on their range of options and qualifications. All students are fully supported in receiving appropriate guidance to help them decide on their next steps, with opportunities to speak to, and to visit, further and higher education establishments throughout their time in school.
All students will have a careers interview towards the end of Year 10 or beginning of Year 11. Any student can request a careers appointment and they will all receive an action plan after their appointment to help them with their next steps.
Students will have access to a comprehensive online careers platform, Unifrog, and participate in a range of activities designed to give them an understanding of further and higher education, as well as the labour market. It also has a number of activities to help them understand their own skills and qualities and to help them improve their employability skills where needed.
We have a wide and strong network with local and national employers, with the Gloucestershire Careers Hub and with the Forest Economic Partnership. We invite employers in to support our teaching teams and highlight to young people the relevance of their school-based learning to future careers, as well as to conduct workshops and talks, and to take part in our mock interview sessions. However, we are continually looking for willing volunteers to share their own experience of the working world. We know that labour market information provided directly by local and national business partners, means that students are able to make considered and informed choices about their futures.
